How much does the Texas P&C license cost?

Short version

For the standard Texas resident General Lines P&C route, the exam costs $49 per attempt and the license application costs $50. Budget separately for fingerprinting, any checkout fees, and optional study materials. These licensing expenses are separate from State License Prep pricing.

Exam and application fees

The exam amount comes from the Pearson VUE handbook; the application amount is listed in TDI's application instructions. Neither is a charge for using State License Prep.

Pay the exam fee when booking. Pearson's fee is non-refundable except under its change/cancellation policy; read that policy before changing an appointment. The application fee is non-refundable.

Confirm additional charges before paying

Fingerprinting: use TDI's fingerprint instructions to follow the correct process and confirm the current charge when arranging the appointment. Check whether an exemption applies to you before booking.

Application checkout: review any service or processing fees shown by your chosen application service. This guide does not quote an unverified amount for either of these expenses.

Study materials are a separate choice

For the standard resident route, TDI's listed steps do not include a required pre-licensing course. Other routes, including temporary licenses, can have different requirements. Our pre-licensing requirements page explains the distinction.

Budgeting for another attempt
